Fleet Safety Conference Revamps Medium-Duty Truck Safety Panel

In light of recent reports from the American Transportation Research Institute and the National Transportation Safety Board that raise questions about the safety of medium-duty trucks, new panelists have been added to a session on medium-duty truck safety at the Fleet Safety Conference next week in Schaumburg, Ill.

A new study by the American Transportation Research Institute found that over the past decade medium-duty trucks have a worse crash record than heavy-duties.

NTSB, an independent agency that can make recommendations but does not write rules, recommended that the government should consider making medium-duty straight truck drivers get a commercial driver's license, following a five-year study that found these trucks were involved in a disproportionate number of fatalities.

In light of this research, Dan Murray, VP Research, ATRI, is joining the Medium-Duty Truck Safety panel discussion on Thursday, June 27, from 10:15-11:15 a.m.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Jim Voorhees, CEO, Instructional Technologies.

Other panelists include:

  • Alan Weisinger, Director of Driver Training, Schneider National
  • Dan Morton, Cottingham & Butler Transportation Group, which provides insurance and risk management solutions
